Summary: A hike up to a beautiful mesa, then on to an overlook with red rock views all around
Challenge Level: Moderate
Hiking Distance: From the parking lot to the edge of Brins Mesa you'll hike 1.5 miles. If you hike to the scenic overlook, you'll hike another 0.7 mile, for a total round trip of about 4.4 miles
Trailhead Directions: From the "Y" (the intersection of State Route 179 and State Route 89A), go north to Jordan Road. Turn left on Jordan Road and drive to the end. Turn left and proceed to the cul de sac and continue straight on the dirt road. You'll come to the parking lot after another 1/2 mile.
Description:
In January 2009, we hiked Brins Mesa. The land is recovering from the 2006 fire very nicely. When we reached the mesa after climbing up 550 feet, we followed the right trail about 0.7 mile and climbed up on a large rock formation for a scenic view of Mormon Canyon to the east and red rock views all around. It was magnificent! Total elevation gain from the parking lot to the scenic overlook is about 1000 feet.
