Summary: A pleasant hike featuring great panoramic views and partial shade
Challenge Level: Easy to Moderate
Hiking Distance: About 2 1/2 miles each way or 3 1/2 miles each way depending on where you park to begin the trail
Trailhead Directions: From the "Y" (the intersection of State Route 89A and State Route 179), drive towards Cottonwood 3 miles. Turn right on to Dry Creek Road. Stay on Dry Creek for 3.2 miles (just past FR 152) and park along the road or at a pull off on the left side of Dry Creek Road. The trail begins on the east side of Dry Creek Road and is marked with a single cairn.
Or, turn right on the paved FR 152 and drive 1/4 mile to the parking area on the left.
Or, continue on Dry Creek Road and turn right on Long Canyon Road. Drive 0.3 mile to the parking area on the right.
Description: The Chuck Wagon Trail is a newly-adopted bike trail. It goes east from Dry Creek Road, essentially parallel with FR 152 to near the Brins Mesa Trail. There are some terrific views from this trail. It is partially shaded and is relatively level. It intersects the Mescal Trail and further on there is a trail leading to Devil's Bridge.
