GREAT SEDONA HIKES

Templeton Trail From Bell Rock Hike

Summary: A hike along a fairly level trail with great views of famous rock formations

Challenge Level: Easy to moderate

Hiking Distance: About 3 miles from Bell Rock to the base of Cathedral Rock; 6 miles round trip

Trailhead Directions: From the "Y" (the intersection of State Route 89A and State Route 179) proceed south on SR 179 for about 5 1/2 miles. You'll see a "Scenic View" sign on your left, just north of Bell Rock. Turn left here to the first parking area. Go south past the interpretive signboard and immediately turn left on to the Phone Trail. Follow the Phone Trail  for 0.3 mile and continue north along the Bell Rock Pathway. You'll intersect the Templeton Trail in 0.1 mile on the left.

Description: The Templeton Trail extends between the Bell Rock Pathway (where this hike begins on Templeton) north to the base of Cathedral Rock and then continues down some switchbacks to the bank of Oak Creek. It ends at the intersection with the the Baldwin Trail, across from Red Rock Crossing. From Bell Rock, you hike north and cross beneath SR 179 before heading for Cathedral Rock. All along the hike you have views of Bell Rock, Courthouse Butte, the Chapel of the Holy Cross and Cathedral Rock. Here's a 2 minute video of our recent hike.
