Summary: A steep hike to the "saddle" of Cathedral Rock
Challenge Level: Hard
Hiking Distance: About 3/4 mile each way
Trailhead Directions: From the "Y" (the intersection of Highway 179 and Highway 89A), drive South on Highway 179 for 3.2 miles to the Back'O Beyond roundabout. Go West on the Back'O Beyond Road for about 3/4 mile. The parking area is on your left.
Description: If you want to get up close and personal to Cathedral Rock, this short (1.5 miles round trip), hard hike is for you. Hike up the trail which starts on the right (west) side of the parking area. You’ll start out crossing a dry creek bed. Continue climbing up the trail and you'll come to a large slickrock area where you may find a group performing yoga exercises. When you reach the Templeton Trail, turn right and go about 60 paces to the beginning of the Cathedral Rock Trail on your left. The trail up is well marked with cairns and is very steep -- good hiking boots required! At the top of the trail there are wonderful views in all directions. The Cathedral Rock vortex is also located in the "saddle" at the top.
