Summary: A short hike up the side of a mountain with wonderful views of Cathedral Rock
Challenge Level: Moderate
Hiking Distance: About 1 mile to the top, then another 1/4 mile to the overlook (2 1/2 round trip)
Trailhead Directions: From the "Y" (the intersection of State Route 89A and State Route 179) go west on SR 89A for 4 1/4 miles to the Upper Red Rock Loop Road. Turn left and the Sedona High School is on your right. Turn right at the third driveway (it's behind the school) and look on your left for the sign to the unpaved trailhead parking area.
Description: Located out Highway 89A towards Cottonwood, Schuerman Mountain provides great views of Cathedral Rock and other red rock views. We made the hike in April when many wildflowers were blooming. When you get to the top of Schuerman Mountain, take the trail to the left for the view of Cathedral Rock. You can turn right at the top but there aren't as many good views this way.
For those of you who have a GPS unit, I have GPS data available for the hike which include "tracks," the route and waypoints.
